Premise
The “Floating Market” competition invites participants to envision an innovative floating market space that adapts to challenges posed by rising sea levels and urban densification. The goal is to design a modular, sustainable, and culturally rich marketplace that thrives on water, offering a vibrant and flexible hub for commerce and community.
Objective
Participants must create a design that integrates functionality with ecological and social considerations, celebrating local traditions while presenting a forward-thinking architectural solution to climate change and spatial constraints.
Site
The site can be a waterbody of your choice, either urban or rural. It should reflect the real-world challenges of water-based construction and highlight the interplay of architecture with environmental and cultural contexts. Participants are encouraged to specify their chosen site and justify its relevance to the project.
Constraints
- Modular and scalable solutions must be a part of the design.
- Incorporate sustainable materials and construction methods.
- Address climate resilience, especially rising sea levels.
- Designs must prioritize cultural integration and celebrate local heritage.
- Ensure functionality for both vendors and visitors while maintaining ecological harmony.
Schedule and Fees
- Submission: 25th February 2025, 23:59 GMT/UTC
- Late Registration: 28th February 2025, 23:59 GMT/UTC ($40 USD)
- Regular Registration: 20th February 2025, 23:59 GMT/UTC ($30 USD)
- Early Registration: 30th January 2025, 23:59 GMT/UTC ($25 USD)
- Results Announced: 1st April 2025
Submission Requirements
- 1 x A1 Sheets explaining the value proposition or the design (each PDF with at least 150dpi – Max. 20 MB).
- Optional Video: 1-2 minutes explaining your design/concept (content left to participants’ consideration).
- Teams of 1-3 individuals can participate (multiple registrations allowed using different email IDs).
- The final PDF must be named as
team-<team number>.pdf
(e.g.,team-1234.pdf
) and uploaded to a public file handler with “Public Access” enabled. - Videos should be uploaded as an Unlisted video on YouTube, titled
team-<team number> | Seek Fanatic Competition #seekfanatic
, with Seek Fanatic’s logo postfixed for 3 seconds (logo download). - Ensure content in sheets is plagiarism-free (except for collages and human cutouts in renders).
- Designs must avoid disclosing the identity or location of participants.
- Registrations must be completed via seekfanatic.com using the team leader’s contact information.
- The team number is the same as the Order Number (4-digit code) after payment.
Note: Failure to comply with any submission requirements will result in disqualification, with a notification email sent to the team leader.

- Runners-Up (4): $250 each + Certificate + Publication in Annual Issue + Blog Post
