AJ Architecture Awards

The Architects’ Journal is delighted to announce the return of the AJ Architecture Awards for the eighth consecutive year!

The awards will highlight the very best projects across 16+ categories from housing, health, and wellbeing to workplace and cultural projects. View the full list of categories here.

The awards are open to all practices, regardless of size or scale. The winners will be revealed at a celebratory event that will take place on 27 November 2025 at Royal Lancaster London.

Walter A. Hunt, Jr. Scholarship

Registration Deadline: May 12, 2025; Submission Deadline: May 12, 2025

This scholarship honors the passing of Walter A. Hunt, Jr., its namesake and benefactor. Hunt’s generosity of spirit and commitment to education live on in the scholarship he established.

Award

Single award in the amount of $10,000 per year for two years*. After recipients complete their first year, they will submit a transcript, a recommendation from a professor, and a reflection of the year to the committee for the second year disbursement.

Recipients also have the opportunity to be mentored by a committee of Walter A. Hunt’s colleagues to bolster their education and career in architecture if they so choose.

*Awards may vary depending on the quality of applications and candidate pool.

Purpose

To promote and encourage the study of architecture by New York City public high school students through a scholarship to supplement tuition and related costs during their freshman year at an NAAB-accredited school of architecture in the U.S.

Eligibility

Applicants must be current New York City public high school seniors who have been accepted to a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program at a NAAB-accredited School of Architecture in the U.S. Students at NYC Charter High Schools are eligible. Students at private, parochial or other schools where tuition is charged are not eligible. Applicants must provide a digital copy of their final graduation high school transcript in order to accept the award.

The second year of the scholarship funding is dependent on demonstrated successful completion of the student’s first year.

Douglas Haskell Award for Student Journals

Registration Deadline: Jun 13, 2025; Submission Deadline: Jun 13, 2025

Founded to encourage student journalism on architecture, planning, and related subjects, and to foster regard for intelligent criticism among future professionals. The award is not intended as a prize for individuals, but to support the ongoing publication of student-edited journals whose subject matter could include architectural design, history, and theory.

Award

Single or multiple awards up to $3,000.

Eligibility

Any journal (online or print) published by a school of architecture, landscape architecture, or planning in the United States that is edited by students is eligible. The publication must have been produced in the current or previous school year.

Center for Architecture Design Scholarship

Registration Deadline: Mar 21, 2025; Submission Deadline: Mar 21, 2025

Supported jointly by Center for Architecture and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), this scholarship is for students seeking their first professional degree in architecture or related design discipline from an accredited school within New York State. The dean or chair of the architectural school or accredited design program may invite up to two students from their respective college or university to apply based on their high level of academic performance and evidence of financial need. Financial need of the student shall be determined by the guidelines of the Financial Aid Officer of the school nominating the candidate.

Allwork Scholarship

Registration Deadline: Mar 21, 2025; Submission Deadline: Mar 21, 2025

This merit-based scholarship supports architecture students with demonstrated financial need. Students must be nominated by the dean or chair of the school of architecture in which they are currently studying in order to apply for this award.

Award

Multiple awards of up to $7,500 each, with the potential of an Honor(s) grant of up to $10,000.

AIANY Interiors Speed Presentations

AIANY Interiors Committee Speed Presentations is a competition showcasing outstanding interior spaces designed by architects based in New York. The format of the event—a selection of architects presenting projects in quick-fire, six-minute intervals—allows participants to introduce their work to a wide audience in an engaging time frame.
