Resilient Communities Architecture Competition

Introduction

The world is facing unprecedented challenges, from climate change to social inequality. This competition calls for innovative architectural designs that address these challenges and foster resilient communities. We seek designs that not only respond to immediate needs but also anticipate future uncertainties.

The Challenge

Design a mixed-use community development that embodies resilience. This development should incorporate a variety of housing types, commercial spaces, public amenities, and green infrastructure. The design should prioritize:

  • Environmental sustainability: Consider energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, water conservation, and waste management.
  • Social equity: Ensure accessibility, affordability, and inclusivity for all members of the community.
  • Economic viability: Create opportunities for local businesses and job creation.
  • Disaster preparedness: Design for resilience against natural disasters and other potential disruptions.
  • Community engagement: Foster a sense of belonging and encourage social interaction.

Site

The hypothetical site for this competition is a 10-acre plot of land in a mid-sized city. The site is located near public transportation and has access to basic utilities. Participants are free to create their own specific site context within these parameters.

Submission Requirements

  • Design drawings: Site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, and perspectives.
  • Narrative description: Explain the design concept, key features, and how it addresses the competition criteria.
  • Sustainability analysis: Demonstrate the environmental performance of the design.

Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

  • Innovation: Originality and creativity of the design solution.
