About the LA Resilient Rebuilding Cup

The Cup will galvanize entrepreneurs and innovators to create solutions to the difficult challenges faced by communities, businesses, and governments, helping LA to rebuild resiliently, reduce vulnerability to future wildfires, and serve as a model to the world.

The final stage of the Cup will take place in Los Angeles on July 10, 2025 in front of a jury as well as an audience of investors and corporate partners. Up to $100,000 will be made. Finalists will have the chance to win cash prizes and access funding for piloting to demonstrate their innovations through piloting technologies and business models in fire-affected communities in the Los Angeles regionAdditionally, select Cup participants will be invited to participate in LACI’s Incubation Program, which provides startups with comprehensive support services to bring their products to market.

The 2025 Urban Design Lab (UDL) Thesis Publication offers an exceptional opportunity for both graduate and undergraduate students worldwide to present their groundbreaking thesis projects, centered around urban design, landscape, architecture, and planning. This initiative serves as a platform for the next generation of designers and researchers to showcase their work while contributing to the ongoing conversation in the field of urbanism.

The publication highlights exemplary thesis projects completed in the last five years, focusing on four key themes: Urban Renewal, Urban Landscapes, Urban Management, and Urban Networks. Urban Renewal addresses the revitalization of heritage areas and the transformation of urban spaces. Urban Landscapes emphasizes the integration of natural and built environments, while Urban Management explores the physical, social, and economic management of urban areas. Lastly, Urban Networks dives into the complexities of connectivity, mobility, and transit systems in urban spaces.

All selected thesis entries will be featured in a dedicated book with an ISBN, providing global visibility and recognition. Furthermore, the top 40 participants will have the privilege to present their work in an online thesis seminar attended by esteemed urban design professionals from around the world. What is German Design Graduates (GDG)?

With the German Design Graduates initiative, we want to make your ideas, products and concepts visible and actively network you with players from design, business and culture. Our aim is to make the diverse topics and positions of young graduates from the fields of product or industrial design, textile and fashion design as well as communication and digital design visible.

Your projects will be presented in exhibitions, at trade fairs, via our large partner network and a permanently visible online platform. We also support you with our training programmes and our network to launch your design career.

German Design Graduates is supported by the German Design Council Foundation, which has been the project sponsor of the initiative since 2022. The German Design Council Foundation has been operating as the world’s leading centre of excellence for communication and knowledge transfer in the fields of design, brand and innovation since 1953.
